The Charlton Lions Club is committed to providing the citizens of Charlton with help on issues such as sight, hearing and health needs, scholarships, handicap ramps, disaster relief, and gift cards to help bring joy to families in need at Christmas. Where there is a request, the Lions respond. Charlton Lions are a part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization. 100% of money raised is donated to charitable causes with a majority right in our own town. Since 1917, Lions have strengthened communities through humanitarian projects.

Have a positive impact on the lives of others, and experience the feeling of service.

Charlton Lions celebrate 50-year milestone

Local, regional and state officials turned out on Sunday, November 2 to help The Charlton Lions Club celebrate 50 years of service to their community and beyond.
The Club, chartered in November of 1975, invited community dignitaries, local business sponsors, former members and other Lions Clubs to join them for an hors d’oeuvre party at the Pine Ridge Country Club in Oxford, which was decorated with balloons and flourishes in gold (for 50 years) and blue and yellow (Lions colors).
On display were scrapbooks and memorabilia from many years, depicting some of the Clubs work in the community – scholarship awards to graduating Charlton seniors, holiday gift cards for needy families, a Peace Poster Contest for middle school youth, a Speech Competition for high schoolers, handicap ramps for the mobility challenged, sight and hearing testing for children and town employees, and much more.
Club President Dana Gould served as master of ceremonies for the event. After welcoming everyone, he gave a brief history of The Charlton Lions Club. On behalf of the Club he received citations and recognition brought by representatives of the Commonwealth, Lions Clubs International (LCI), District 33A of LCI, and the Town of Charlton.
Past Lions District Governor Denise Andrews presented Dr. Carole Duquette, Charlton’s club administrator, with an International President’s Award, recognizing her hard work and compassionate service to the community and the world and for serving as an example to fellow Lions. This is the third highest honor in Lionism.
Helene Doucette, who joined The Charlton Lions Club in 1977, is the longest continuing member. Helene has served over the years in several capacities, including as a district governor and club president. She chaired the 50th Anniversary Committee and was cited by speakers for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Club and its work.
The Club plans to continue its charitable activities in the town for many years. Its next project is its annual visit to residents of Charlton Manor Rest Home, bringing cheer and gifts and leading a sing-along of holiday songs.
Lions are people from all walks of life who enjoy helping their communities and have a great time doing so. Leos Club Energizes

Leos Clubs provide the youth of the world with an opportunity to develop and contribute socially and responsibly.  We are honored that in the past few years our community gathered to start a Leos Club for Middle School aged youth.  After a few short weeks they volunteered at raffles, emptied the Lions Bottle & Can redemption box and held regular meetings.  Their advisors worked with them to develop guidelines in keeping with Lions International and they made decisions about how to raise – and how to give funds back – to the community that they love.  In these difficult times, it is heartwarming and refreshing to see young people so passionate and willing to help others and, if they are an indication of the future, we should all be proud.  To find out how to you or your child can be become involved with the Leos Club please contact us and we will put you in touch with a Leo Club advisor.
